Portable engine for boats, dinghies and sailing boats
A lightweight four-stroke Tohatsu engine that one person can easily carry and set up. Suitable for a fishing boat, a yacht tender and as an auxiliary engine for a sailing boat — it runs quietly and economically.

The first battery-free fuel injection in the 8/9.9 hp class
The EFI system ensures reliable starting, stable idle speed and fuel economy. At the same time, the problems of carburettor engines, such as clogged jets, disappear.
Water-cooled fuel pump
On MFS8C/9.9CY(W) models a water-cooled fuel pump is standard: reliable starting, stable idling and smooth running.
Standard steering handle
The ergonomic handle combines a front gear lever (forward–neutral–reverse), a stop switch, throttle friction adjustment and, on PT models, a tilt switch.
New carrying handle for tiller models
The shift and throttle cables and wiring are routed through the handle, so the engine looks tidier. The handle itself is 40 % wider and rounder — more comfortable to carry.
Fuel connector location
On manual-control models the connector is on the right side of the cowling; on remote-control models it is at the front of the cowling, in the centre.
Convenient flushing connection
As on other Tohatsu models from the MFS9.9E to the MFS140A, the flushing connector has been moved to the mid-section. Flushing with fresh water can be done without any special tools.
Improved crankcase ventilation
After extensive testing, the crankcase ventilation return port has been moved to where the vacuum draws out vapours most effectively.
Practical cowling design
A rubber grip is fitted to the tilt handle — making it easier to lift the engine by hand and carry it.
Improved centre of gravity
The centre of gravity has been moved towards the front of the engine, so lifting it by hand takes 19 % less effort.
